| Overview |
Educational device to demonstrate the concepts of tomography to university sudents.
This device can do tomography on objects projected into a plastic block. A computer
controlled digital camera measures projections. Several tomography algorithms are
implemented to illustrate their typical features. No X-rays are used, the device
can be used in normal laboratory environment, no maintenance or supervision is needed.
TOMOLAB is a device designed to demonstrate the concepts of tomography for university
students and enable tomographic measurements on known objects without the use of
expensive and troublesome X-ray technology. The device can be operated by the students
them-self in a normal laboratory environment, it needs neither maintenance nor expert
supervision. TOMOLAB is the ideal system to teach the operation, capabilities and
artefacts of tomography. It can perform measurements with different resolutions and
simulate the effect of technical problems like detector failure, misalignment or
movement of the object. It is also highly expandable with new measurement and processing
algorithms therefore it can also serve as an entry point to interested students into the
world of medical tomography.
